Somnoplasty - How Does It Work?

Tracheostomy
There are various surgical procedures available for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea. Removal of enlarged tonsils and adenoids often helps as does reconstruction or shortening of the soft palate and uvula. Another method of treatment by surgery is the tracheostomy. In this method, an incision is made into the trachea or windpipe and a tube is inserted through this opening. Instead of the usual method of breathing through the nose or mouth, the patient now breathes through this tube.
The Pillar Procedure
Restore Medical offers a breakthrough treatment for sleep-related breathing disorders - the Pillar Procedure. The Pillar Procedure compares favorable with more invasive surgical procedures LAUP (laser assisted uvulopalatoplasty) and UPPP (uvulopalatopharyngoplasty.) People may well prefer it to the use of CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure,) especially those who find it difficult to sleep wearing the prescribed mask.
Laser Surgery for Sleep Apnea
Laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty (LAUP) uses lasers to remove soft tissue from the throats of sleep apnea victims but the scar tissue that forms may pose even more of a problem.

Tracheostomy. Is It for You?
A new tube-free tracheostomy has been developed that allows the patient to speak and cough without having to plug a tube. It also permits the use of the sense of smell.

Mandibular advancement device
A mandibular advancement device reduces apneas and improves sleep quality in patients with obstructive sleep apnea, especially in those with mild and moderate disease.
Laser Surgery For Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Standard LAUP treatment done in most centers requires three to five treatments to slowly shrink the floppy palate. No tissue specimen is actually removed;
