Definition: It is a whole-body relaxation technique whereby you progressively tense and relax your muscles, starting with your feet and concentrating on one muscle group at a time. It may be effective in treating insomnia as well as reducing stress. It can be learned through the use of books, tapes, classes, or therapists.
Examples: When Erin couldn’t fall asleep she used the progressive muscle relaxation techniques she’d read about online.
