Definition: A sleep diary is a daily log used to record an individual’s sleep-wake pattern, typically over a period of weeks. It includes all episodes of sleep (even naps), bedtimes, waketimes, and various other related factors. It is a helpful resource doctors can use to assess sleep patterns, and it is often used in conjunction with actigraphy data (data gathered from the monitoring of gross motor activity).
Examples: His sleep diary shows that he has a very irregular sleep schedule with many naps during the day.
