Definition of Alpha Activity

Definition: A pattern of brain wave activity that occurs with a rhythm of 8 to 13 cycles per second as measured by an EEG. It indicates relaxed wakefulness with eyes closed and often precedes sleep. It is best measured in the occipital region which is located at the back of the head.
Examples: The alpha activity on his EEG shows that he is still awake.
