Let's Talk About Weight
Part Three - Let's Talk About Exercise

Watching your diet is very important in weight loss, but so is exercise. Some attempt must be made to do something to burn off excess calories. And, another added benefit, we feel much better after some exercise. It gets the blood flowing and makes us breathe deeply, cleansing our lungs.

Having a disability should not be used as an excuse. There is always something we can do in the way of exercise. An exercise routine doesn't have to mean an afternoon jogging around the park, or an evening spent on the Nautilus. Even deep breathing constitutes exercise. Gentle arm and leg lifts, stretching, a bit of twisting, even while sitting in a chair - all of these are forms of exercise.

If you are able, walking is one of the best exercises there is for weight loss and toning the body. Again, this doesn't have to be strenuous walking. A slow stroll around the block, if that's all you can manage, constitutes exercise, and if you take that stroll a few times, you might possibly be able to expand that walk into two - three - six blocks by and by. Eventually you might even work your way up to jogging or a block or two on a bicycle.

I mentioned earlier that one of my readers who is a victim of sleep apnea is also a swimmer and swims several laps every day. I know many who are reading this may not be able to manage this. But that's no excuse to avoid the pool. Even if you only sit on the edge and splash with your feet or go into the shallow end and play in the water, it's all healthy fun for your body.

Now put it all together:

  • A nutritious diet
  • Small portions
  • Gentle Exercise
  • Now add one final ingredient: A positive attitude. You can do this. You can lose weight. I'm not suggesting you take off ten pounds in the next few days. Take your time. In fact, avoid the scale for a month as you gradually work away at the diet and the exercise. You might be in for a pleasant surprise the next time you get weighed.
