ENURESIS

Enuresis, or bedwetting is usually a disorder of childhood, but it is occasionally carried over into adulthood.  For a child, it's not only uncomfortable, it is also humiliating.

SYMPTOMS:

  • Repeated bedwetting
  • This goes on for at least three months
  • Child is of an age to know that wetting the bed is not a good thing
  • No psychological or medical reason can be found

TREATMENT

Behavior Training

  • Training the bed wetter to urinate on a schedule during waking hours
  • Restricting the fluid intake, especially near bedtime or in the evening.
  • The use of an alarm set at specific times that wakes the bed wetter up so he can go to the bathroom.
  • A special alarm that beeps to wake either the bed wetter, or in the case of a child, perhaps the parent, at the least sign of dampness.
  • Seek out and eliminate any reasons for stress, at home, on the playground or at school.
Medication
  • Imiparine (Tofranil) -  Reduces bladder sensitivity
  • Oxybutynin Chloride (Ditropan) -  Anti-spasmodic

  • DDAVP - Reduces amount of fluid in the bladder during the night.
