Favorite Ways to Relax Before Bed

According to basic guidelines to improve sleep, it is important to have relaxing sleep rituals prior to going to bed.

In general, these rituals include quiet activities in the 15 minutes or so before bedtime. These activities allow us to unwind and mentally prepare for going to sleep. Ideally, they would not include mentally stimulating activities such as watching television, using a computer, playing video games, or doing work.

Some recommended activities would include reading, listening to relaxing music, or taking a nice bath. What are your favorite ways to relax before bed? Vote in the poll or comment on this blog if your favorite isn't mentioned.

I listen to books that I download from Audible.com & books on CD & tape from the library. Sometimes … often times it’s like a magic pill that even though I’m certain sleep will elude me, I wake up the next morning or after several hours sleep, hit play & I’m out again (most times). So many times I’ve only made it 4 to 10 minutes into the book. After almost 30 years of acute isomnia, sleeping pills, meditation, you name it…this is a God send. All I know is it takes my attention/thoughts from all the others that might be whiring in my mind, I trust it & even on the nights that are rough I get reading done in this way. I hope this helps even one of you – it’s helped a few other insomniacs I know!

My best sleeping pill is praying or listening to a tape of a christian preacher. It always soothes me and take away my anxieties. I mentally turn over evry worry to God.
