How Much Sleep Studies Cost

It is sometimes hard to know what to expect in a sleep study. Moreover, for those who have had their sleep formally evaluated in a sleep center, and for those who have yet to be evaluated, it may be surprising how much those studies actually cost.

It is very difficult to obtain specific information about these costs. This is partly due to the fact that they vary greatly from one center to the next. In medicine there is also a difference between what an insurance company gets charged, and what they ultimately pay. Therefore, an uninsured patient who is charged directly may get a different price. An overnight sleep study, called a polysomnogram, may cost from $1,000 to $5,000 for each night, according to various discussions online.

If you are concerned about the costs, it is best to call ahead and get the information prior to having the study. Any reputable sleep center, especially those associated with health care centers, should be able to provide you with an estimate of the expense.
